"Early Sunrise"

Coreopsis Grandiflora "Early Sunrise", a perennial that grows up to 18 to 24 inches.  It begins blooming in late spring, early summer, and continues until fall.  Flowers are born on long stems, making it perfect for cutting.   This is a great filler plant for sunny borders or mass plantings, and is a perfect addition to a wildflower garden.  Early Sunrise, an All America Selections winner, is shorter and stockier than the species, and has semi-double blooms.  This plant should be placed in full sun to partial shade.  It prefers poor, but well drained soil.   It requires feeding only once in late winter or early spring with a controlled-release flower food.  Removing spent flowers during the blooming season will prolong flowering.  Water requirements are low.  Zone range 4 to 9.

Place Acquired:  Home Depot, Graceful Gardens

Date Acquired:  March 1999

Planted Out:  Island Bed 2

Details:    Purchased 4 plants from Home Depot, 6 from Graceful Gardens. Not blooming when purchased, plants from Home Depot very short and dry looking, planted and watered thoroughly, looking better within a day or two, began blooming early April 1999.  Most plants did not survive the hot dry summer of 1999, only about 2 or 3 made it.  I have purchased several more in March 2000, again at Home Depot, because I liked the way they looked so much.
