We had this solitary pine tree in our back yard, and I could envision a circle of flowering shrubs around it.

I chose to plant wiegelas.  I currently have 3 planted there, 2 varietaged, and one regular.  I hope to get more and eventually completely surround the tree.  Although the bloom time is short, when they do bloom, they are just dripping with flowers in lovely lipstick shades.
