Genus of 12 species of mostly spreading to upright deciduous shrubs found in scrub and woodland margins in East Asia. They are cultivated for their showy, bell to funnel shaped, pink to red, sometimes white or yellow, flowers, which attract hummingbirds. They usually bloom on the previous year's branches, therefore pruning should occur immediately after blooming. They can be grown in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Hardiness rating is zone 5-9.
