Lantana

This variety I purchased at Home Depot, and failed to write down the variety name.  It is a low growing, mounding cultivar, someone called the color School Bus Yellow.  Most likely is "New Gold" or "Gold Mound."   Lantana is actually a tropical shrub and produces long branches.   Some selections creep while others arch upward.  Creeping types grow about 1 foot tall and 3 feet wide.  Larger arching types may grow to 4 feet tall and equally wide.  Both can be planted to soften the hard edges of the landscape.  Lantana tolerates poor, sandy soil or clay when provided good drainage.  It blooms profusely, even in the hottest weather, and is often perennial in the Lower and Coastal South.   Sunny areas are the best, although a few hours of shade per day are okay.   Flower colors range from yellow, orange, magenta, white, red, and pink to purple.   Frequently they behave like chameleons with their tiny flowers fading and changing color from day to day.

Place Acquired:  Home Depot

Date Acquired:  March 1999

Planted Out:  Southwest edge of Island Bed 2

Details:  Blooming when purchased, continues to bloom profusely, is very vigorous, probably will need shearing back soon.
