Leucojum

Leucojum - Snowflakes
Snowflakes

Leucojum aestivum, or Snowflakes, are among the most robust and reliable spring flowering bulbs.  In Louisiana, where snow in winter is fairly rare, a plant with the name Snowflake has a certain allure.  Snowflakes bloom in April with white, bell like flowers that dangle from strong stems in clusters of two to six.  The strong foliage persists well into summer, when it finally yellows and should be cut back (foliage should be left on until yellowing to allow the bulb to store nutrients for the future).  The bulbs should be planted in October through November.  Any garden bed that has good soil and receives at least 4-6 hours of sun will work well.
